The magical holiday tradition continues! Bring the whole family to the Placerville Downtown Association’s Festival of Lights on Friday, November 28. This FREE holiday welcoming ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m. and clear, cold and dry weather is on the wish list! Most of downtown’s Historic Main Street will be closed to host performers at the Courthouse, the Bell Tower and several other locations. Stroll down Main Street or take a ride on the stagecoach and enjoy the local bands, jazz groups, dancers and singers. In addition to the entertainment, this is also the first day of the Merchants Open House, where visitors can enjoy goodies from merchants and view beautifully decorated windows and roof lines. And best of all, the tree lighting will feature a lighting countdown at 6 p.m. by Miss El Dorado, Marissa Santana, followed by a visit from a jolly fellow in a red suit who will set up headquarters in River City Bank from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. Photos will be available (for a fee), but are not required to visit Santa. The Holly Jolly Trolley will provide free transportation between The Mountain Democrat parking lot, the Placerville Park and Ride Station on Mosquito Road (next to EID), and the bus stop near Bank of America on Sacramento Street. Many public lots will be available for parking, but may fill up quickly. Shuttle service will be available every 30 minutes from 5 p.m. until the last downtown pick-up at 8:45 p.m. Merchants and restaurants will stay open and stagecoach rides will run from 4 to 8 p.m. near the Bell Tower. For more information, call Placerville Downtown Association at 530- 672-3436.
