Q&A with Local Companies: Marcie Shelton at The Leaders Partner

Granite Bay, 916-755-2402, theleaderspartner.com

Services or products you offer: I enable leaders to achieve their strategies and goals via their teams through workshops, coaching, process improvement, leadership development, and so much more.

What you enjoy most about your profession: When businesses succeed, people succeed. The snowball effect of working for a good leader positively impacts families and communities.

You started your business, because: I love working with business leaders to help them succeed but had gotten to a point in corporate America where I was writing spreadsheets and PowerPoints instead of working one-on-one with leaders. Getting to do this on my own schedule with little travel (so I can spend more time with my girls while they're still young) is a bonus.

First job: Not including babysitting and mowing the lawn, it was working retail at an outlet mall near my hometown.

Favorite food: Cheese and chocolate.

Favorite local restaurant: Without kids, Farmhaus. For a quick bite, In-N-Out Burger.

Last big purchase: A small boat tour in Alaska with my family.

Favorite small business: I have so many, but Foodom, Snooks Candies & Chocolate Factory, Ruby's Books, Fourscore Coffee House, NuYo Frozen Yogurt, Bloom Coffee & Tea, and Dominick’s Italian Restaurant & Deli top the list.

Favorite local event: Folsom Pro Rodeo.

When not working, you can be found: “Moming.” And, if I can make the time, playing outside.

You love living here, because: I call this area the Midwest of California. I grew up in small-town Indiana and love that we can talk with our neighbors, see nature wherever we drive, and that most people genuinely want to help each other.
