Q&A with Local Companies: Eric Simerly at Simerly Construction Inc.

Cameron Park, 530-417-7458, @simerlyconstruction

Services or products you offer: Concrete, excavation, grading, retaining walls, drainage, custom metal fabrication, and more.

What you enjoy most about your profession: I love working with my hands and, for the most part, being outside. Beautifying my community one job at a time is an added bonus!

Fun fact about your company: I would have never had the courage to go out on my own if my mentor/former employer didn’t push me out of the nest, so-to-speak.

First job: Les Schwab in Placerville.

Favorite food: My wife’s fried pork chops.

Last big purchase: A mini excavator.

When not working, you can find me: Coaching my older son’s t-ball team, riding dirt bikes, hunting, or fishing. I love all things outdoors.

You love living here because: I have access to outdoor activities that I enjoy, and it’s quiet, rural, and beautiful.

Customer service is: Everything; my livelihood. My wife has worked in customer service for over 20 years and she always says, “People may not remember what you say but they always remember how you make them feel.”

Most memorable experience as an entrepreneur: Building friendships with clients. I started my business to provide a service—I never imaged how it would connect me to my wonderful community.

You started your business, because: I wanted to be my own boss and help the residents and business owners of my community the only way I know how.

Favorite local restaurant: Wally’s Pizza Bar.

Favorite local event: The Summer Spectacular at Cameron Park Lake.

Favorite small business (other than your own): Foothill Ammo.
