Traveling to watch basketball is a lot easier thanks to Roseville Transit’s Game Day Express, a nonstop bus service from Roseville (Civic Center Transfer Point on Vernon Street) to Sacramento Kings home games at Golden 1 Center. United Way offers an easy solution for those who earned $54,000 or less in 2017 to file taxes. Through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic tax return preparation with electronic filing until March 29, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and select Saturdays (February 3 and 24; March 10 and 24) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Placer County Department of Health and Human Services (1000 Sunset Boulevard) in Rocklin. The City of Roseville’s Parks and Recreation Department is hiring for summer positions, including a recreation specialist and recreation aide. Submit an application online at roseville.ca.us/jobs.

A new clean-eating restaurant, Primal Kitchen, is opening at 1220 Roseville Parkway, Suite 140, and will offer create-your-own bone broths and other organic options.

The City of Rocklin purchased 184 acres of land that was previously home to Sunset Whitney Country Club and hopes to use the property to expand the city’s trail system.

Locally owned Moksa Brewing Co., a name derived from the Sanskrit term meaning “freedom,” now occupies the 5,000-square-foot space at 5860 Pacific Street in Rocklin.

Congrats to Placer County’s new county executive officer, Todd Leopold, who has more than 20 years of public sector experience and most recently served in Colorado as a county manager.

Jeremy Dunmore plans to open a high-end supper club at the old First Bank in Downtown Roseville. The Metropolitan Nightclub will have a piano bar and restaurant, along with a patio space, and coffee shop called The Met.

The Community of Writers at Squaw Valley has opened enrollment for its 2018 summer writing workshops, including a Poetry Workshop from June 23-30, and  Writers Workshops from July 8-15. Applications are due by March 28. For more info, visit communityofwriters.org.

There are new spring hours at Fairytale Town! Beginning March 1, they’re open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Weekday admission is $4.75 for adults and children ages two and over (weekend is $5.75); children ages one and under are free.
