zoey » Zoey, the chocolate lab, is obsessed with chasing tennis balls. If I don’t pick it up and re-throw it for her, she has learned to throw it at me.—Michael

Tiramisu, Brownie Sundae and Bon Bon Squishy Paws with Samantha (human) » Our family has three dogs—a beagle named Tiramisu, a poodle named Brownie Sundae and a Maltese-Jack Russell named Bon Bon Squishy Paws. They were all rescue dogs. Bon Bon is my dog, and was adopted by my mom at Gridley Canine Dog Rescue at Christmastime in 2015. She was the best Christmas present ever and watches over me when I sleep. What’s more, she can twirl on her back legs and do lots of other tricks, and likes to sit on shelves and watch people outside. Whenever I leave, she stares out the window; every time I get home, she jumps on me until I fall on the ground.—Samantha Tsang

Teddy Bear with Lily (human) » Teddy Bear was found on the streets in Hayward, and was adopted by Lily. He is her new love and best friend and goes everywhere with her.—Sandy Klein

Sabrina and Shadow » Sabrina is eight years old and our pampered princess. She loves people—unless they stop petting her—and doesn’t like to be cold or wet. Last year she almost died when the vet couldn’t diagnose an illness she had, until they did exploratory surgery and discovered she had a ruptured gallbladder. Shadow, who is exactly the opposite of her sister, is 11 years old and thinks she’s still a puppy. She loves to swim and play ball and “talks” to all my visitors to tell them she needs a treat by pointing to the cookie jar with her nose. The vet said Shadow is on borrowed time, as she has a heart condition, but don’t tell her that—she’s happy as can be.—Tina Hagerman

Riley » Riley is a Samoyed who just turned 14. He still enjoys two walks a day, playing catch with his tennis ball on the patio, and the occasional ice cream.—Christian and Elizabeth Hurley

Penny » Penny is a mini labradoodle and admires her big sister Gracie (poodle-terrier mix). When she’s not chasing her own tail, she enjoys chewing on…anything! Penny is great at sitting and paw-shaking. The rolling over trick is a bit more challenging but is possible with the nudge of her mommy’s hand. She looks forward to meal time and never gives up on trying to eat from her sister’s dish. Most importantly, she adores her family and loves to cuddle, kiss and wake up her brothers in the morning.—Amber Burak

Someone had abandoned her when she was only eight weeks; she was found trying to claw her way out of duct work in a mobile home.
