Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

We are a graphics company offering Web site development and personalized office products. In 2006, I ventured out to start this business not only because I saw the need, but also it is very rewarding doing a job I enjoy. I used to work as a contracted technical writer specializing in documenting methods and procedures, training document requirements and more. I realized that any company can have the best documentation, but if it is not maintained in a repository with version control it does not serve its potential.

As time went on I developed Web sites to house all documents instead of storing them on the company server. There were many benefits for this, and I started getting more and more business requests. With my writing and creative background it was an easy fit to start developing Web sites for small and large corporations.

What was your vision when you first started your business, and what is it now?

My original vision was to obtain contracts with reputable companies to stay employed. I had the opportunity through networking to learn about certification opportunities. Global DesignIT is SBA and WBME certified. As with all successes, it has been a joint effort with various resources.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

I am proud to be a member of Woman of AT&T, (WOA). They are known for contributing to young women’s education by holding yearly events and offering grants. We support March of Dimes, the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Organization, Joyce Meyer Ministry, and Joel & Victoria Osteen. A portion of GDI’s profits are contributed to these organizations as well as other local charities.

Why is your staff the best in the business?

I guarantee my work, and the subcontractors I hire are people who I have direct insight into their knowledge, experience and dedication.

What is the best thing about being the boss?

Inspiring others. If I can do it, so can they.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

One of my life goals is to raise my daughter to become a role model for the community. I approach this by getting her involved with what I do but most importantly being involved with what she does.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?

Home to my daughter. She has known since age five that wine and salad will wind me down.

And finally, customer service is…?

Global DesignIT stands for customer service. We are here to enhance people’s lives by providing today’s most reputable, profitable Web sites, exceptional customer service whether the service is office supplies, T-shirts, documentation or complex Web site databases. •
