Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

Fitness Together is a one-on-one personal training studio where clients train in their own private training suite with a trainer. I’ve been involved in the fitness industry for years and always wanted to open my own business. The Fitness Together business model was exactly what I had in mind: high-quality fitness experts really helping people achieve their goals in a nurturing and supportive environment.

What was your vision when you first started your business, and what is it now?

I wanted a real community-based business where people come for expert fitness advice. Since opening in May 2008, I think we’ve become known as fitness experts who are interested in results, not just sales.

What was the first job you ever had, and what did you learn from the experience?

Cleaning cages at the Pink Poodle – a dog groomer! I learned that someday I would need a college education!

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

My ultimate goal with our clients is to teach them good habits, which they can apply to their lifestyle and eventually become their own “health expert.” Many of my clients are small business owners and we support them and their businesses any way that we can.

Why is your staff the best in the business?

Our staff has a ton of fitness knowledge and they are dedicated to delivering the best possible service in the industry. We truly enjoy what we do and it is reflected in the way we treat clients.

What is the best thing about being the boss?

I like being able to give great service without someone questioning my decisions. I always put the client’s needs first, and in past jobs, the company wasn’t too fond of that idea.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

I’m pretty proud of completing 10 Ironman triathlons, including three world championships in Hawaii.

Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?

My father-in-law is a great role model. He raised a family, sometimes working two jobs, and was able to put both of his daughters through college. He also served in Vietnam. He’s been married to the same woman for more than 40 years and is a great grandpa to my son!

And finally, customer service is…?

What we do best! We do everything in our power to treat each client as our top priority, because they are.
