Gold Hill Event: Ikebana Spring Presentation – March 21

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement influenced by Buddhist philosophy. The asymmetrical forms use empty space to emphasize the natural beauty of each flower and branch. Sogetsu Ikebana is one of the newer schools of arranging. Their motto is “Anything, anyone, anywhere,” enabling the artist to incorporate both natural and artificial elements to create living sculptures of great beauty. This afternoon workshop will explore spring flowering branches, such as Forsythia, Quince, Cherry and others, in tall (Nageire) containers. Techniques for fixing branches in tall containers will be central to the instruction. At the end of the workshop, each participant will take home an arrangement. Workshop Teacher is Ki Doh Yasmin Spiegel, who holds a 4th Grade Teaching Certificate in Sogetsu Ikebana. Suitable for ages 8+ w/adult supervision. Contact ARC to sign up and for meeting location (Gold Hill area). Cost: $15/members, $20/non-members. [email protected] or 530-621-1224.
