In my own life, I understand the emotions that come with uncertainty and an unknown road. Early in my career as a financial advisor, my wife and I were approached to be the future caregivers to my brother-in-law who has a learning disability. We agreed, but quickly learned we were not well prepared for the challenges that would come. This inspired me to pursue my true passion helping other families, like mine, understand their options. Knowing the busyness, concerns, and joys that are inherent to families with complex care needs, I can develop relationships on a more personal level.

Early in the discovery process, I found a hole in traditional service models available to this community by asking parents a simple question. When’s the last time you went on a vacation without your child? Many looked at me with confusion, what do you mean? Parents are required to be so focused on the complex care needs of their loved one, they haven’t had an opportunity to care for themselves.

So, we flipped the traditional model on its head by intentionally focusing on the parents first, rather than the child first. Our goal is to help parents recapture their own hopes AND dreams AND to remove the fear of an unknown future caregiver. This works beautifully because to help parents achieve their goals, we must also solve for the child’s complex care needs as well. By putting the parents first, we are ensuring the parents lives and wellbeing are participants in the family plan, rather than neglected bystanders.

We’ve solved this complex problem through our own GONE transition planning and financial planning services to allow parents to dream dreams they’ve not had in years.

For those ready, my first question to you is, where do you want to vacation to?
