Soroptimist International of Cameron Park/El Dorado Hills (sicpedh.org) is seeking grant applications from women who serve as the primary earners for their families and need financial assistance to continue their education or training. Applications for the Live Your Dream Award (two recipients will be given up to $2,500 with the opportunity to receive an additional $5,000) are available at bit.ly/LYDA-apply; the deadline is November 15.

Posh Puppy Boutique

 

The owner of Roseville’s Posh Puppy Boutique (poshpuppyboutique.com), Jennifer Kirk, was featured on Season 2 of the reality show Below Deck Mediterranean on Bravo—a series that chronicles the lives of crew members who charter and reside aboard a 150-foot superyacht in Croatia. Firefighters' Appreciation Month

 

In honor of Firefighters’ Appreciation Month in September, Folsom's Original The Blue/Red Crew and Hearts for Heroes—a program started by Shelley Martell of Fabulous Finishes and her husband—organized lunches and dinners on Tuesdays where local restaurants, including Visconti’s Ristorante, Sutter Street Steakhouse, and Land Ocean New American Grill provided complimentary meals to hometown heroes serving on the frontline.

Folsom OB/GYN—led by Jeffrey Cragun, MD, and Ann Powelson, MD, along with three additional providers—joined Mercy Medical Group, a service of Dignity Health Medical Foundation, at 1735 Creekside Drive in Folsom. According to Cragun, “Partnering with Dignity Health enables us to carry out our shared vision of delivering the highest level of women’s health care with mutual trust and compassion.”

Hands4Hope Louisiana Schnell Elementary School

 

For the eighth year in a row, Hands4Hope—a nonprofit youth-driven organization with a mission to inspire and empower youth in leadership and service—distributed 437 backpacks and over 10,000 school supplies to local students in need. The distribution took place at Placerville’s Louisiana Schnell Elementary School and was a huge success thanks to generous community donations.

Johnson Pool 100 year anniversary

 

Johnson Pool in Downtown Roseville is turning 100 on October 4! Originally constructed in 1921, it served as the city’s first public swimming “bath” and was named for David R. Johnson who operated the privately owned pool until it was purchased by the City of Roseville in the ’60s. Approximately 3,000 people visit the locale each summer.

Don’t miss the Placer Artists Studios Tour preview show, Taste of the Tour, at Blue Line Arts (bluelinearts.org) from October 29-November 14, where work from all participating artists will be on display. On October 30 at 6 p.m., there will be a Taste of the Tour Reception featuring meet-and-greets with artists, plus wine, beer, and appetizers. Join Soroptimist International of Folsom El Dorado Hills for their Online Auction Fundraiser from October 7-10. Featured items include vacation packages, gift cards to local restaurants, ski lift tickets, and more. Join Kings Meats, Kilt & Cork, the El Dorado Winery Association, and other area restaurants at Saureel Vineyards on October 2 from 4-8 p.m. for Steaks & Grapes, a high-end dinner and concert to benefit the Caldor Fire Fund. From noon-9 p.m. on October 9, Historic Folsom is hosting a Wild West Film Festival. The free, family-friendly event, hosted in and around Zittel Family Amphitheater, will include a Western film competition, cowboy theater and poetry, historical costumes, Western crafts, a farmers’ market, and live music. Join the El Dorado Hills Arts Association (eldoradohillsarts.com) for their free, self-guided Art Studio Tour on October 2-3 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The event takes attendees through artists’ studios in El Dorado County and Folsom to peruse and purchase diverse displays of works while getting a behind-the-scenes look at their creative process.

Soap Box Derby Days

 

Historic Folsom’s family-friendly Soap Box Derby Days is back! From October 16-17, kids (ages 7-20) are invited to sign up and race on Sutter Street (from Wool Street to Reading Street). Spectators can watch from noon-3 p.m. For more info, visit historicfolsom.org/events-schedule.

Coloma Gold Rush Live

 

Explore an 1850s tent town while visiting a mining camp, assay/claims office, gambling hall, general store, blacksmith, carpentry shop, laundry, bakery, and more at Coloma Gold Rush Live from October 8-10. Disney On Ice, "Let's Celebrate"
