Prairie City Landing: Senior Living in a Post-Vaccine World

Sponsored content submitted by Prairie City Landing

Here in California, we always look forward to summer. There’s nothing better than enjoying our California outdoor lifestyle, and this is the time of the year when outdoor activities, from gardening to community BBQs, really come into their own. But this year, the season has special meaning — especially in Senior Living Communities like Prairie City Landing. We built our community around a fully engaged and active lifestyle, so we couldn’t be more excited that we’re back to full and vibrant Dining, Fitness and Events and Adventures programs!

Life during the time of COVID has been challenging, to say the least. Isolation is hugely detrimental to our residents’ physical and emotional well-being, so we’re delighted that with nearly total vaccination rates for both residents and staff, we’re quickly returning to a fully engaged lifestyle in our community. Prairie City Landing will be open in the same way that our surrounding community is open, so residents can go shopping, dine out or go to the movies as outlined by local city and county guidelines.

Our approach to opening up prioritizes a full experience, balancing social engagement and mental well-being with careful attention to physical health and safety. We have always, and will, for as long as needed, maintained regular testing, screening and social distancing protocols, because those precautionary measures allow us to have the maximum freedom in our daily lives. Our whole community, including Harbor Memory Care, is open for fully vaccinated visitors, and for those residents who are unable to be vaccinated, we encourage outside, socially distanced visits with friends and family.

There’s special significance for our Memory Care residents as we move toward post-vaccine living; their families, can now enjoy face-to-face visits. With the building opened up, Harbor residents can once again participate in activities in the larger community. It’s one of the biggest advantages of our Harbor program that residents are equally able to enjoy life, with an appropriate safety net. Some of that lifestyle was lost during shutdown, and we’re truly grateful to be able to rebuild the Harbor way of life.

Prairie City Landing’s three dining venues are open to our residents for full-service dining (with appropriately socially distanced seating) as well as takeout. Residents can choose between farm-to-table fine dining in The Cypress Room or the comfort-food menu at the all-day Café Natoma. Our Italian-style bistro has resumed its role as the social hub of the community, serving coffee and light meals during the day, and becoming a wine and cocktail bar with a lively happy hour every evening.

After a year where fitness classes were Zoom-only, our residents are once again loving the social side of group fitness classes. They’re returning to our well-appointed fitness center which is outfitted with equipment designed for seniors, and is overseen by our fulltime certified senior fitness professional. Other specialized facilities are likewise open once again for residents, including a dedicated art studio, state-of-the-art theater, Club Room and salon.

Our Events and Adventures program is back to a full schedule, including bus trips to local attractions (with masks, of course), dance lessons and our always-changing series of activities and programs that run the gamut from once-in-a-lifetime adventures (beekeeping, anyone?) to cultural entertainment including lectures, musical performances and movies.

As they always have, our residents appreciate their spacious condominium-style apartments- and, once again, they’re free to entertain friends and family (as long as they’re fully vaccinated, of course.)  These units include fully equipped kitchens, with solid-surface countertops, a peninsula with an eat-in counter and full-size appliances, as well as ample storage space. Living spaces are generous, with oversized windows to let in abundant daylight. The apartments feature walk-in closets and large side-by-side washers and dryers in every unit. These homes are perfect for couples, and Prairie City Landing does not charge a second person fee, saving couples approximately $9,000 per year.

Assisted Living Services are available in every apartment. These additional personal care options, delivered by our Tenfold resident services team, enable residents to stay in their own home as their needs change, participating fully as members of the community, and maintaining the independent lifestyle they love.

We’re grateful that we can once again welcome new residents with the promise of a full life experience, so this is a great time to schedule a full building tour and pick out your apartment in person. For the next 30 days, we will waive the $3,000 community fee for new depositors.
