Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

JJ Music offers private lessons in guitar, ukulele, piano and more at many different schools—College of Marin, Gateway Seminary, Summit Christian School, Marin Horizon School, and Marin Christian Academy—and locally. I started the business because I was grateful for my early education in music. Growing up, I experienced a lot of frustrations playing sports; as a result, I turned to music, which gave me a new passion for life. I now make a full-time living doing it and believe all children should have the opportunity to learn music. 

Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?

My father. He’s a musician and has a wealth of knowledge in business. 

Where do you go when the going gets tough?

I turn to prayer and to the Bible. I seek God when the going gets tough…and go to the gym!

What’s your hidden talent?

I love skiing. 

What’s your biggest job perk?

Doing what I love—teaching and playing music.

What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?

Hisui Sushi.

Where do you and your family go locally to have fun?

California Family Fitness and the park.

What’s your favorite local event that you go to?

Open mic on Wednesday nights at Gaslight Co. on Sutter Street. 

What’s your favorite local business other than your own?

I love BusyKidz. 

If you could be in any other profession, what would it be?

A college professor at a musical institute.

The most important thing for a business. I strive to have all of our customers wanting to leave us a five-star rating.
