Folsom Zoo Spotlight: Meet Opossum Poppy

Five-month-old Poppy the opossum was found with her 11 siblings after her mother had been hit and killed by a car. The young “joeys” (baby opossums) were severely dehydrated and overheated, so Poppy had to be handled more than normal. She ultimately became imprinted, which made her non-releasable. Poppy loves grapes, but keep the cauliflower away. The zoo is hopeful she’ll make a great animal ambassador in their “Zoo To You Outreach”— a program that travels to local schools and teaches kids about keeping wild animals wild.
