Catch All: Octoberfest

"Modeled after the largest folk festival in the world celebrating the time of harvest, Placerville Oktoberfest began in 2010, making this the eighth annual event," explains Placerville Downtown Association Administrative Assistant Heidi Mayerhofer. This year's event, slated for September 22 from 3-10 p.m. on Placerville's Main Street, promises plenty of beer, pretzels, and dancing! Additionally, there will be a wine garden, beer drinking contests, wiener dog races, and activities for children and families. Admission is free, but food, drinks, and contest entry are an additional fee. "We will have fabulous food vendors on the street featuring brats and sauerkraut, as well as smoked oysters from Powell’s Steamer Co. & Pub and large pretzels from Bavarian Bread Company," continues Mayerhofer. Craft beer and local wines are also on the menu with the tapping of the keg slated for 3 p.m. sharp. After filling up a fresh stein, try your hand at the stein hold contest, chugging contest, yodeling contest, or das boot contest. There will be plenty of fun for the entire family throughout the day, so put on your lederhosen and get a taste of Germany right here in Placerville.
