What's Up: Roseville Granite Bay Rocklin

The Summer Reading Program at Roseville Public Library begins June 4. Pick up a reading log at any location and read through August 13 to help the community reach 100,000 books!

Out of 131 programs in California, the Sierra College Nursing Program (SCNP) ranked third by a national online service, registerednursing.org, for its National Council Licensure Examination pass rates and various other factors.

William Jessup University has announced a new research endeavor: the Institute for Biodiversity and the Environment (IBE). Michael McGrann, the chair of both IBE and environmental sciences, says the top concern of the institute is the global loss of biodiversity. Future projects will collaborate with the Placer County Conservation Program, among others.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors recently approved a $5.29 million deal to buy the Bradley property, 400 acres of grasslands east of Sheridan. This purchase will help begin the implementation of the Placer County Conservation Program to preserve natural and agricultural heritage.

Congrats to Suzi Vinci, the new veterans service officer for Placer County. Coming from a military family with four generations of service, she’s excited to help make a difference for veterans and their families in the community.

The privately owned, public works general contracting company based in Loomis, Landmark Construction, promoted Kevin Brennan to president. Brennan has 16 years of experience managing large public works projects. Joe Bittaker, the former president, is now chairman.

A new superfood bowl and smoothie eatery is coming to Roseville. Cielo Acai Café—located at 1611 Lead Hill Boulevard—will feature acai bowls and toppings along with other foods.

Do you know a teen interested in robotics? Rocklin Friends of the Library is hosting a summer robotics program for 13-17-year-olds on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The class is limited to 12 students and meets at Rocklin Public Library beginning June 25.

Congrats to Rocklin kindergarten teacher Kaelin Swaney who was named Hart Vision Teacher of the Year by the California Charter Schools Association.

Jordan Herget, who has more than 13 years of senior leadership experience, was recently named senior vice president and area manager of Roseville Kaiser Permanente.

Successful e-commerce business Campfire Treats is now open in Rocklin at 4800 Granite Drive. The locally owned store creates handcrafted, all-natural premium dog treats and chews.

Placer SPCA’s Funny Bones Comedy Show and Awards Night raised $111,000 and recognized the following people, places, and animals for their kindness and compassion: Deputy Stan Semenuk, Colleen Adamson, Gold Country Wildlife, and Scout.

The Placer Community Foundation (PCF) awarded a total of $18,000 in grants to Peace and Justice Center, Globalmarketplace.org, Foresthill Community Development Council, and Girl Scouts Heart of Central California to promote social gathering with respectful listening and debate.
