Folsom Parks and Recreation: Celebrate Bike Month

MAY 6
Great Scott Bike and Walk Event

This free, self-supported ride includes more than 30 miles of beautiful country roads that are closed to vehicle traffic for the exclusive use of cyclists and pedestrians. The event is made possible by the City of Folsom, Sacramento County, El Dorado County, El Dorado Hills CSD, the City of Rancho Cordova, and the 50 Corridor TMA. Fast riders can access the course from 8-10 a.m.; from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., the speed limit slows for family-friendly rides. Ride distance is up to each participant, whether you choose to complete the entire 30 miles or just a portion of the course. bikegreatscott.com

Amgen Tour of California

America’s largest cycling race, the Amgen Tour of California, brings the excitement of professional cycling to the City of Folsom with Stage 6 of the men’s race, which starts at 9:45 a.m. on the Johnny Cash Trail. Watch as riders funnel down the trail to cross the stunning wood-arched Robbers Ravine Bridge. Near the end of the trail—which is anchored by the iconic Johnny Cash Bridge—riders transition to the roadway and the peloton dramatically ramps up the speed as they reach Green Valley Road. The race is officially on as riders begin the 123-mile Stage 6 route, with 16,000 feet of climbing. The elevation in Folsom is a mere 275 feet; racers will top 8,600 feet at the crest of Carson Pass, and finish at 6,600 feet in South Lake Tahoe. Spectators can get a close-up look at the professional cyclists as they warm up and prepare for the race, and find information, refreshments, and activities at the on-site Lifestyle Festival. amgentourofcalifornia.com/host-cities/folsom
