On November 2, 201, the Consumer Products Safety Commission (“CPSC”) published a recall of about 37.8 million Kidde fire extinguishers with plastic handles and push buttons in the United States, and approximatedly 3 million more in Canada.  The fire extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire emergency.  In additon, the nozzle can detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard.

Consumers should immediately contact Kidde to request a free replacement fire extinguisher and for instructions on returning the recalled unit.  Your recalled unit may not work properly in a fire emergency.  Contact Kidde toll-free at (855) 271.0773 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  ET Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET Saturday and Sunday or visit www.kidde.com and click on “Product Safety Recall” for more information. 

These fire extinguishers were sold at numerous stores across the U.S. and online at Amazon.com, ShopKidde..com and other online retailers.
