Folsom Parks and Recreation: Give Where You Live

Oct 30, 2017 11:44AM ● By Lesley Miller
Help create holiday magic for the community! Individuals, families and service groups are needed to assist with an assortment of tasks for the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary’s annual Wild Nights and Holiday Lights extravaganza. To prepare for the popular event, the zoo’s grounds, exhibits and landscaping are decorated with thousands of feet of colorful light strands, countless sparkling ornaments and trees, lighted animal figures and seasonal displays. The event expands this year to include the new Barnyard Experience, which will transform into Santa’s workshop. Volunteers are needed for the following tasks:

DECORATE A SECTION OF THE ZOO

The zoo is divided into various sections for decorating and LED lights are supplied, but many hands are needed to install them! To help, simply gather a group of 4-10 helpers, a few tools and some holiday spirit. The decorating date is scheduled for November 4, with a rain date of November 18. Note: Volunteers must be at least eight years old for safety reasons.

DECORATE A TREE

A featured highlight of the event is the Enchanted Forest of beautifully lighted and decorated trees. The live pine trees are supplied—you bring the creativity and décor. Decorating groups may include up to four people per tree, and dates are scheduled for November 25 or November 27. Note: Volunteers must be at least eight years old for safety reasons.

BRING YOUR CAROLING GROUP

Whether it’s your well-harmonized family or an organized singing group, add an element of cheer to the event with your favorite holiday songs. Carolers are needed for each night of the event.

All volunteers are rewarded with a free one-night entry to visit Wild Nights and Holiday Lights. This year’s event has an extended run and goes from 5-8 p.m. on December 1-2, 8-9, 15-23 and 26-30. On December 20, Food Truck Safari takes place just outside the zoo entrance in Folsom City Lions Park. All event proceeds benefit the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary animals.
