The Power of Play in Folsom and El Dorado Hills Communities

Jun 27, 2017 04:42PM ● By Style

July is designated as a nationwide celebration recognizing the importance of parks and recreation for residents, communities and the environment.

Folsom dwellers and visitors can enjoy outdoor spaces and recreation at any of the city’s 46 parks, 45 miles of beautiful trails and at recreational facilities, including the Folsom Senior Center and Public Art Center, Folsom Aquatic Center, Folsom Sports Complex, and the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary. Recreational programs, activities and events for all ages and interests can be found in the summer edition of the Live Folsom activity guide.

This month also marks the 25th anniversary of the Folsom Parks and Recreation Department. The public is invited to a party on July 22 to celebrate the occasion. Festivities kick off at 5 p.m. with $.25 admission to the Folsom Aquatic Center for swimming, DJ entertainment and contests. Savory and sweet treats with special $.25 pricing will be available from Jimboy’s Tacos, Raley’s, Rita’s of Folsom, Round Table Pizza, Chick-fil-A, and Ruchi Indian Cuisine. Bring lawn chairs and a blanket for the open-air screening of the Disney hit Moana at 8:30 p.m. Special $.25 admission is also offered on July 22 at the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary and Folsom Skate and Bike Park; the Folsom Sports Complex has a variety of $.25 deals as well.

Endless Summer

The El Dorado Hills CSD has something for everyone. Mark your calendar for the following:

FOOD TRUCKS

JULY 12

Every second Wednesday at the EDH Community Park from 5-8 p.m., Food Trucks in the Foothills brings great eats and drinks. Proceeds support the EDH Promise Foundation, which serves the community by promoting charitable giving and support.

PARENTS’ NIGHT OFF

JULY 14-15

Send your kids (ages 6-12) to the CSD gym from 6:30 p.m. until 9 a.m. the following morning, and enjoy a night to yourself! They’ll start with a pizza pig-out, followed by late-night swimming and a sleepover. Supervision is provided by Day Camp staff, and pre-registration ($40 fee includes dinner, pool admission, a light breakfast and snacks) is required.

 SUMMER CONCERTS IN THE PARK

JULY 14 & 28

Head to the EDH Community Park at 7 p.m. and listen to acoustic rock, funky reggae and soulful blues from Island of Black and White (July 14) and Mike Furlong’s tribute to Tom Petty (July 28). Food, bounces houses and other children’s activities are also part of the fun.
