Celebrate Bike Month

Throughout the month of May, citizens of every age are encouraged to embrace pedal power and enjoy the many benefits of cycling. Those who live or work in the Greater Sacramento region are urged to join the “two million mile” challenge by logging their miles at mayisbikemonth.com. Cyclists can also join the fun at a variety of special events.

SUNDAY, MAY 7
8 a.m.-3 p.m.

This free event—where more than 30 miles of beautiful country roads (centered around Scott Road) are open solely to cyclists and pedestrians for seven hours—is made possible by the City of Folsom, Sacramento County, El Dorado County, the City of Rancho Cordova, the 50 Corridor Chambers of Commerce and a variety of community sponsors. Fast riders can access the course from 8-10 a.m.; from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., the speed limit slows for family-friendly rides. Ride distance is up to each participant, whether they choose to complete the entire 30 miles or just a portion of the course.

RIDE WITH THE MAYOR
THURSDAY, MAY 11
7:30 a.m.

Meet in Historic Folsom for free coffee and pastries before an 8:30 a.m. departure that takes riders on a 30-mile route to Discovery Park where they’ll join other cyclists from around the region for a free catered lunch. After, ride the last few miles to the State Capitol and join in Capitol Bike Fest, then rejoin the group to ride back to Folsom or hop aboard light rail (free tickets for participants). This event is free, but pre-registration is required (visit webtrac.folsom.ca.us and search for activity code 271060-01, or call 916-355-7285).

Cyclists should keep to the right side of the trail, maintain a safe speed, and pass on the left side of oncoming pedestrians; pedestrians should keep to the left side of the trail (facing oncoming cyclists) while dogs should be kept on a leash and stay on the left side of their human
