Timbers at the Lodge Restaurant in Sun City Roseville

Beef Burgundy

After a nearly five-month remodel, Timbers at the Lodge Restaurant in Sun City Roseville has unveiled their revamped restaurant and sports bar. Alterations included enlarging the dining room and enclosing the patio to become the newly expanded lounge—complete with hardwood floors, glass viewing panes with vistas onto the course, and large flat screens hanging strategically from three corners of the bar.

According to Food and Beverage Director Jason Smith, “It just made more sense to separate the bar from the dining room.” Now diners in the lounge can root for their favorite professional “gaffer” on the tube while ordering Arnold Palmers and Caesar salads—before, after or during their round. My foursome would, of course, opt for Bloody Marys, craft beers and buffalo wings from the full bar menu. A pound-and-a-half of hot wings, accompanied by blue cheese dipping sauce, celery and carrot sticks, coupled with the aforementioned beverages, completed the day’s nutritional requirements for a round of golf.

Diners in the main restaurant have the ability to watch events unfold on the bar televisions should they desire, as glass walls partition restaurant from bar patrons. The dinner menu pays homage to the demographic of the community and features classics like beef Burgundy, brimming with bow-tie pasta in a rich, red wine sauce with chunks of tender filet mignon, cipollini onions and crimini mushrooms; and, their most popular dish, a hearty pot roast, served with potato mash, seasonal vegetables and a cup of soup or side salad. The thickly sliced, braised-to-perfection Harris Ranch beef was accompanied by its flavorful roasting juices, which I gladly sopped up with the complimentary bread.

For dessert, try the brownie sundae with ice cream; because if you’re going to blow a diet, you might as well go big. There’s something about a warm, house-made chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, syrup, whipped cream, chopped nuts and fresh berries that soothes your ego after an 18 hole, double and triple bogey-filled day.

Customers can also take advantage of “Free Corkage Tuesday,” “Prime Rib Thursday” and “Live Music Friday,” to fill out their dining and social calendars.
