The guided "Walk and Talk" program for seniors

Folsom Parks and Recreation

Folsom Parks and Recreation’s Winter/Spring Activity Guide is loaded with a variety of dance, fitness and sports programs for every age, from preschoolers to seniors.

Preschool Fitness: Ages 3-6

Programs focus on having fun while kids build coordination and motor skills. Selections include swim lessons, soccer, tennis, taekwondo, basketball and dance; many of the classes require parent participation.

Youth and Teen Fitness: Ages 5-18

Classes—including golf, dance, soccer, tennis, football, wrestling, archery, swimming and more—introduce the fundamental skills required for each sport, teach the principles of teamwork and sportsmanship, and are a great way for kids to have fun while they engage in physical exercise.

Adult Fitness: Ages 18+

Adult fitness programs are the ideal way to try out a new activity or build on existing skills, relieve stress and meet new people. Selections include disc golf, yoga, tai chi, tennis, lap swim, aquacise and sports leagues.

Senior Fitness

Programs for seniors exercise the mind and body, and also serve as a valuable social outlet. Many also help participants avoid injury by building and maintaining strength, balance and flexibility. Selections include yoga, tai chi, Zumba, aquacise, pickleball, flexibility/strength training, chair-based fitness, and the guided Walk and Talk program that takes participants on tours of Folsom’s beautiful recreational trails. Seniors may also enroll in adult fitness programs and sports leagues.

Outdoor Workouts

The city’s 45-mile network of beautiful, paved recreational trails provides convenient access for walking, running or bicycling. Trails can be accessed within most neighborhoods and near businesses and retail centers. A trails map can be downloaded from the city’s website.

Family Fitness

Organized run or walk events are great fitness motivators. Make it a goal to take part in the third annual “Love My Mom” 5K run or walk on May 13, and join the fun at the 34th annual Run with Nature on May 20.

Holiday Tree Recycling And Chipping

This free, CSD/Waste Connections-sponsored event takes place at the Community Park. Cash donations will be accepted and benefit the Community Supporting Youth Fund.

To prepare your tree, remove everything from it including all ornaments, lights, ornament holders, nails and the stand. Trees that are “flocked” aren’t eligible for chipping. Discarded wreaths, garlands and greenery with metal, plastic, wire, lights or ornamentation aren’t considered green waste; place them in your trash cart.

Residents have a choice of:

1. Bringing their own trees to the Community Park either day

2. Utilizing the Boy Scout’s curbside tree collection fund-raiser on Saturday

3. Cutting the tree into small pieces and placing in the green waste cart (making sure it’s not so packed in that it will get stuck in the cart when being emptied) for green waste collection week

4. Taking trees to the Recycling Center at 4421 Latrobe Road

5. Taking trees to the Material Recovery Facility in Diamond Springs

For more information about this event and others, visit edhcsd.org or call 916-933-6624.
