Q: What’s a good age to start puppy training?

A: In my opinion, it’s never too early to start training, and is all about how you look at the phrase “dog training.” Dog training is really about how to live with your dog, and this starts from day one. Our furry family members are craving order, structure and discipline. As a pet parent, it’s important to show leadership to your dog immediately. We’ve helped families when pups are as young as eight weeks old.

Q: I’ve lived in my home for 10-plus years and have noticed my white carpet is changing color and doesn’t return to its original hue after a cleaning. Is it time to replace it?

A: Carpet is a type of fabric, so it’s important to compare it to other fabrics. For example, if you have a white towel that gets a spot on it or gets dirty, many times you can clean it by washing or treating the stain; however, over the years, you’ll probably notice the towel starts to look a little dingy, and the color isn’t as crisp. I believe this is what you’re experiencing with your carpet and, unfortunately, this aging process usually isn’t reversible.

Q: What are the benefits of sending my children to gymnastics classes?

A: Gymnastics is the only all-around developmental sport, and most Olympians and top athletes started out taking some [type of] gymnastics class. The sport teaches participants how to cope with and learn from failure and realize that failure is not the end of the world. It also teaches patience, focus and goal setting; how to take constructive criticism; the value of hard work and discipline; and how to compete against one’s self, conquer fears and manage time. What’s more, it teaches the left and right side of the brain how to communicate with one another. Most importantly, however, gymnastics teaches self-esteem, cognitive function, coordination, strength development and social skills.

Q: What’s the best wine to pair with fresh fish?

A: Fresh salmon that’s been poached in a Dijon dill cream sauce pairs nicely with red or white wine. Wild Horse Pinot Noir starts out with flavors of strawberry pie on the palate, unfolding into a rich velvety finish; Boeger Pinot Gris has a sweet aroma of honeysuckle, pear and nectarine with a medium palate. With that said, wine is enjoyable when served with any fish; just remember not to take wine too seriously—have fun with it!
