Rock and Soul with Vino Banditos of Placer County
Aug 29, 2016 09:33AM ● By David NorbyJohn (JT) Taylor, John Young, Randy Walker and Steve Cain
The band Vino Banditos is comprised of four talented, long-term musicians and friends: John Young (vocals and guitar), John “JT” Taylor (vocals and bass), Randy Walker (vocals and lead guitar) and Steve Cain (drums). Officially formed in 2012, the group began in the neighborhood they all share, over shared passions as well—music and wine. After many rehearsals and beautiful bottles of Barbera, the name stuck, and the group has been rocking wineries and breweries across the region ever since. On November 12, they will partner with the Country Club Saloon in Loomis for their annual fund-raiser benefitting the Placer Food Bank.
HLB: What can attendees expect at a Vino Banditos show?
VB: Rock and soul—uncorked and unfiltered. We’re all about variety and, although we started out strictly acoustic, we’ve evolved. We begin each show with a soulful, intimate acoustic vibe that masterfully crescendos throughout the show, ultimately transforming into an electric rock performance. We include classic hits from the ’60s through today. Soon, you’re singing along, tapping your toes and eventually on the floor dancing. In the end, we fill up our chalices and raise a toast to celebrate the love of wine, music and debauchery.
HLB: There’s no shortage of amazing vineyards at which to perform—what drew you to the setting?
VB: We like to think of the band as the perfect blend of reds, whites and blues. We love music, and we love wine. It just seemed like a natural pairing for us. Being able to play music with your best friends on a Friday or Saturday afternoon, surrounded by family and friends, while enjoying so many delicious wines that the region has to offer…what could be better?
HLB: How has your band changed over the years?
VB: Vino Banditos has been one of the best experiences in each of our long musical journeys. People often say, “You guys always look like you’re having so much fun playing together.” Well, it’s true—we’re having a blast! What started out as neighborhood friendships has formed, literally, into a band of brothers with a brotherhood that will last far after our last call.
HLB: What’s next?
VB: We often talk about adding new songs to our extensive collection; possibly even some originals. We owe it to our fans to experience a fun show every time they come out to see us, so we’re constantly trying to add new songs, improve the set lists and add to the overall experience for our audiences, while maintaining a signature sound that fans have come to enjoy.
