Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

I’ve wanted to open a yoga and Pilates studio since I was 18. I loved attending classes at other studios, but could hardly find the time to fit it in; plus, all the studios were the opposite direction of where I spend my time (Coloma), so I mostly practiced at home. I also hadn’t found a yoga instructor who resonated with me; I really preferred my own flow and style, and thought to myself, “maybe other people will enjoy my style, too.” I believe every teacher is an interpreter who speaks to us and brings something out in each of us. At 33 years old, I said, “If you want to do this, just do it.” Since opening, I’ve had a great response and so much support from the community. My goal has been to make the classes as accessible and affordable as possible, so that I can share my love and passion for fitness and self-care and really connect with others and inspire them. I’ve found in doing this that my clients have turned around and inspired me. I feel very honored to offer a space where we can gather and support one another in our journeys.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

I open my space to other locals free of charge. One instructor teaches different styles of dance expression, another holds essential oil classes, and another holds drum circles. Every first Friday of the month, I offer a free yoga class at 6 p.m. with a vegan potluck afterwards. It’s a fun way for people to connect with others in this community, and I’m so grateful to be a part of.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?

Yoga. I also love to hike and run outdoors. I’ve always called nature “my gym,” especially in our area. There are so many wonderful trails to explore!

Do you know that our editorial is not paid for, nor can it be purchased? In fact, our Introducing and Dine reviews are not paid advertisements. If you’d like your business profiled, please email Megan Wiskus at [email protected]. Once we determine when your business will be featured, we will contact you to schedule a time to come out and take a photograph. Thank you!
