I have always been service-oriented,” says Ed Manansala, the new superintendent of the El Dorado County Office of Education. “Although I was a business major, I was really interested in working in urban communities [and] serving kids.” Manansala’s parents immigrated from the Philippines before he was born, and his father joined the U.S. military in order to give  his children educational opportunities and a better life.

After graduating from college, Manansala spent several months in Guatemala, an experience that further solidified his belief that acces to learning is imperative for a child’s future success. “I came to really value education,” he explains. “I believe a quality education becomes a lever for a child, a family, and even a community to reach their full potential.”

Prior to taking the reins of his new position, Manansala enjoyed a lengthy and diverse career as a school principal and administrator. He’s also a proud foster parent and father, and a passionate advocate for organizations that help disadvantaged children advance in life. He recently joined the board of Boys & Girls Club El Dorado County Western Slope and is a member of numerous other community groups, including Placerville Kiwanis Club. For Manansala, it all began with his parents—they encouraged him to pursue an education no matter the cost. “The commitment and beliefs of my parents are pivotal to who I am,” he shares. “Their unconditional love is something I carry with me—it’s the same commitment and hope I want for every child.”
