5 Local Get-Moving Activities in El Dorado Region

Dec 30, 2015 04:29PM ● By David Norby

We all know how important it is for kids to have excellent reflexes and coordination, for them to burn off energy and build strong muscles and bones, but let’s face it: During the winter months we’re more concerned about the burning off energy part. Parents want to be jolly, not driven mad. Turns out, getting your kids off the couch (whether they’re lazing on it or running across it) and out into the great wide world of indoor fun is good for their mental sanity, too. So, get them out on a Thursday night, a Saturday morning, or (if we’re talking toddlers) a Wednesday at 10 a.m.—whatever it takes to add more sweat and less marshmallows to those winter traditions.

 1 / ICE SKATING

Folsom Historic District’s Magical Ice Rink invites you to skate every day of the week from now through January 18. Check their website for the 90-minute session start times. $10 for adults, $8 for kids 8 and under; $3 skate rental.

2 / BOWLING

Keep the pace of life slow and the spins fast at this family-favorite in Pollock Pines. Open every day of the week, Knotty Pine Lanes offers all the bliss of bowling in an unassuming, uncrowded atmosphere. $3.50 per person, per game until 5 p.m., $4 per game thereafter; $2.50 shoe rental.

3 / BOUNCE HOUSES/INDOOR TRAMPOLINE

Kid’s Camp in El Dorado Hills has a new party center whose friendly team welcomes drop-in jumpers Tuesday through Sunday. Parties are kept private only for the pizza and presents part, so everyone can have fun year-round. $7 per person for 2 hours; free for kids 2 and under.

All Star Gymnastics in Diamond Springs is the place to be for the 5 and under crowd. They can crawl through tunnels, climb up ramps and (best of all) go bonkers running back and forth on the super long trampoline. Ninety minute open-play sessions begin Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 11 a.m. $5 per child.

4 / YOGA

At Radiant Yoga in El Dorado Hills, little yogis ages 4-12 practice vinyasa poses and yogic breath every Wednesday from 3:15-4 p.m. $5 drop-in fee.

5 / DANCE CLASSES

With tap, hip hop, lyrical, belly dance and more, Jammin Dance in Placerville offers classes for creative movers of all ages. At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, kids ages 6-12 can take a half-hour Zumba class designed just for them. $35 per month for half-hour classes; $45 per month for hour-long classes.
