Holiday Happenings with the Placerville and Cameron Park Community

Tis the season of togetherness and gift giving, and who better to give to than the children of our own community? Thanks to the generous donations that community members make to Placerville’s Recreation for Youth Fund, about 150 local children are able to take one of the enriching classes Placerville’s Recreation and Parks Division offers every year. If families with financial constraints meet the requirements for receiving assistance, the Youth Fund will (currently) pay for 50 percent of their child’s class registration fees once every six months.
The City of Placerville’s Recreation for Youth Fund was established in 1995 to serve the children of El Dorado County. One-hundred-percent of every donation goes directly to the fund for disbursement to those who apply. The City of Placerville believes every child deserves the chance to learn to paint, do karate, dance, swim or play basketball.
Funds are running low, however. By donating, you receive the satisfaction of knowing that your money goes directly to the children of our community and your name is posted in the Activity Guide, which is delivered to over 10,000 residents three times a year. Help keep this program alive and make sure that no child is turned away.

Head to the Cameron Park Community Center and join Santa and his crew on December 5 at 8 a.m. for a Santa Run. From 8 a.m. to noon, the Cameron Park Fire Explorers will serve a free breakfast for runners with pancakes, bacon, eggs, orange juice and coffee; the cost for non-runners is $5.
Don’t miss a Christmas concert by the Sierra Symphony on December 6 at the Cameron Park Community Center; doors open at 3 p.m. and the music begins at 4 p.m. For more info, visit sierrasymphony.org. On December 14, the Sacramento Jazz Orchestra will also perform at the Community Center; doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m. Purchase tickets for both shows at Bel Air, the Cameron Park CSD office or online at showclix.com.
Attend a holiday luncheon–featuring entertainment, games, lunch and a raffle–at the Community Center on December 9 at 11:45 a.m. Mature adults (50+) won’t want to miss a presentation by Mary Cory from the El Dorado Historical Museum on December 2 at 10 a.m. “Paint and Splash Too!” takes place December 7 from 9 a.m. to noon and offers a unique experience for beginning to advanced acrylic painters. Learn step-by-step instructions in a fun and relaxed atmosphere; all necessary supplies will be provided. Pre-registration is required.
Santa visits are available for Cameron Park residents. The man in red will visit your home, hand out candy canes and talk with children about their Christmas wishes. Dates available include December 9-10, 15-17 and 21. Space is limited; call today to reserve your visit.
Hosted by the fire department, the annual Santa Parade is scheduled for December 11-13 (rain date is December 18-20); the route is posted on cameronpark.org.
The Cameron Park Community Events Center is available for holiday parties or winter wedding receptions. The beautiful facility offers a 3,800-square-foot assembly hall equipped with a fully functional sound system, projection screen, commercial kitchen and other amenities. For smaller celebrations, a number of other rooms are available.
