Campelli’s Pizza Offering First Class Pizza in Roseville

Classic Margherita

As my husband and I stepped into Campelli’s Pizza on a recent Saturday evening, we noted nice open space in the front of the restaurant and a long bar facing the brick oven and work station where we found owner Jared Campbell happily chatting with customers. In fact, it seemed we were the only people who weren’t on a first-name basis with the staff.

We took a few moments to look over the menu—a great mix of pizza classics like the Camp’s Combo and Gipetto’s Veggies, as well as signature offerings like Chicken Parmesan. But we couldn’t pass up a chance to try the Campelli’s Crispers, featuring thin dough that lived up to its name, all covered in homemade ranch, garlic and a three-cheese blend that was truly delectable.

Their personal size offerings were a great way for both of us to get exactly what we wanted, and before long our pies arrived—the aromatic herbs on the margherita reaching our noses before the plate even hit the table. The standard margherita was perfectly updated with a crispy-thin crust, fresh mozzarella, vibrant tomatoes, freshly torn basil leaves, sea salt and cracked pepper. Drizzled with a sticky-sweet balsamic glaze, it culminated in a pizza reminiscent of my Italian father’s best caprese salad. The Skinny Dip—a healthier but equally hearty twist on a pizzeria favorite—boasted juicy herb chicken, generous chunks of artichoke hearts, earthy mushrooms and sharp red onions with olive oil.

Word to the wise—save room for dessert, because the S’more Raviolis are a swoon-worthy revamp of the decadent campfire standard topped with whipped cream and chocolate.

To our delight, Campbell stopped by to say hello, and we discovered we go to the same church—suddenly we were just as friendly with the owner as every other patron. With so many flavor-packed offerings and good ol’ hospitality, it’s no wonder Mr. Campbell has so many friends.
