Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

From about the age of five, I was fascinated with animals and made every trip to the veterinary hospital with our family pets. I knew at that time I wanted to be an animal doctor. I was always very comfortable interacting and communicating with all animals and pets, and my desire to enter into the veterinary field never wavered.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

We work with a variety of animal rescue groups and offer free or discounted services to help them. We also promote fund-raising on an ongoing basis to support the Mercer Veterinary Clinic for the Homeless—a nonprofit associated with the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine that provides free veterinary services to homeless individual’s pets in the greater Sacramento area.

Why is your staff the best in the business?

They are hardworking, devoted to their jobs, and very compassionate about their desire to help pets and their owners.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

My family. One of my daughters is getting her PhD in genetics and the other is in her second year at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and will have her veterinary degree in three years.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?

My wife and daughters—we are a very close and supportive family.

What’s your biggest job perk?

The gratitude and feeling of purpose when we have the ability to help owners and their pets.

What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?

Mexquite and Fat’s Asia Bistro

What’s your favorite local event that you go to?

Bark ‘N’ Splash Bash

And finally, customer service is…?

The number one source that drives a successful business.
