Did you know that Oak Ridge High School will be hosting an Empty Bowls Dinner at Oak Ridge High on October 29th, 2015 at 4:00pm until 8:00pm? Oak Ridge social science teacher, Mr. Steve Seely, and his student body have been working on this event for quite some time.

The Food Bank of El Dorado County will be the beneficiary of the dinner, and the group will present a check to the Food Bank the following evening at the Annual Tackle Hunger Game between Oak Ridge and Folsom High.

Rolling Hills Church will also join in on the opportunity to come together with the community by getting their youth involved and helping educate the community regarding local hunger and how they can help.

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to reduce hunger. It began in 1990 at a Michigan high school. A high school art teacher and students were searching for a way to raise money for a food bank, and came up with this idea. A simple meal of soup and bread is served in a handcrafted bowl for people to keep as a reminder of the need that remains. 

The students are currently looking for sponsors for the event. Businesses, church groups, service clubs and more are encouraged to get involved. This event is nearly sold out but tickets may be purchased online at www.emptybowlsedh.org. Please join the community in establishing an event that will assist our neighbors that struggle to make ends meet.
