Roseville's Maidu Museum & Historic Site October-November Calendar of Events

October 2015 Events:

Volunteer Guide Training: September 8 – October 15. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am – 12:30pm. If you like working with kids and learning about local native history and cultural heritage, join our team of volunteer guides. After training, volunteer docents lead tours of the museum and historic site to help teach children about native culture and the environment.

Campfire: Friday, October 16 from 7:00pm-8:30pm. Sit under the stars at our outdoor amphitheater to enjoy native stories around the campfire. We’ll provide roasting sticks and marshmallows for a sweet program’s end. This is our last campfire event of the season. Museum doors open at 7pm. Program starts at 7:30pm. $5 per person, $16 family of four, under 2 are FREE. 

Night Out at the Museum: Please join usSaturday, October 17, from 6:30pm-8:30pm for a Night Out at the Museum. Art Talk and Reception for “COYOTE III.5 - The Conversation Continues…”  This is an extension ofour 3rd annual coyote themed art exhibit. Program starts at 7:00pm. Museum doors open at 6:30pm. Light refreshments will be available. FREE event.

“COYOTE III”

Exhibit Show Dates: September 19, 2015 – November 14, 2015

In partnership with the Ridley Gallery at Sierra College, the Maidu Museum & Historic Site presents “COYOTE III,” our 3rd annual coyote themed art exhibit. Participating artists include: Tiffany Adams, Dugan Aguilar, Ben Aleck, Jack Alvarez, Phil Buckheart, Charley Burns, Adan Garcia-Burgarin, Janice Gould, Karma Henry, Topaz Jones, Julian Lang, Viola LeBeau, Jack Malotte, L. Frank Manriquez, Lillian Medina, Melissa Melero, Stan Padilla, Lyn Risling, Kathleen Rose-Smith, Kanyon Sayers-Rood,  Alicia Siu, Al Striplen, and Alan Wallace.

 “The Retrospective Exhibit of Dugan Aguilar”

Exhibit Show Dates: July 18, 2015 – October 10, 2015

"The Retrospective Exhibit of Dugan Aguilar," curated by Theresa Harlan, includes portraits, landscapes, and personal mementos documenting the many years of Dugan's photographic work. Dugan Aguilar has been photographing Native California life for 30 years. Ranging from portraits of military veterans, basket makers, and dancers to meditative landscapes, his work documents—and contributes to—the perseverance and renewal of Native California’s living, vibrant cultures. Aguilar has exhibited his photographs at the National Museum of the American Indian, Institute for Indian Arts, the California State Indian Museum, and the C.N. Gorman Museum, among many others. Copies of his new book "She Sang Me a Good Luck Song" are available for sale in the gift shop.

 

November 2015 Events:

Talking Stones and Sacred Stories: Saturday, November 7, from 10:00am-11:30am and 1:00pm-3:00pm. The Sacramento Archeological Society and the Maidu Museum & Historic Site present “Talking Stones and Sacred Stories.” Petroglyph tour, film and discussion by Archeology Speakers: Dr. Alan Garfinkel Gold and John Foster. Night Out at the Museum: Please join usSaturday, November 21, from 6:30pm-8:30pm for a Night Out at the Museum. Art Talk and Opening Reception for Dalbert Castro’s new exhibit. Program starts at 7:00pm. Museum doors open at 6:30pm. Light refreshments will be available. FREE event.
