El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a fight that broke out Sunday afternoon in Diamond Springs.

According to a sheriff's office report, a 911 caller reported that at least two males were involved in a fight at about 3:30 p.m. near Halyard Lane and Halyard Court. The caller also stated a woman tried to intervene and a child was screaming.

The call was upgraded to an assault with deadly weapon after it was learned that baseball bats and screwdrivers were being used and several people were now involved.

Upon arrival to a home in the 3000 block of Halyard Lane, deputies found an intoxicated and shirtless man identified as Louis MacDonald, 36, who had scratches about his face and torso. During the investigation, MacDonald became combative and refused medical treatment, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies continued their investigation and talked to several people in the area, but no one claimed to see the fight or to be involved. Deputies also checked the old railroad tracks, speaking to transients who frequent the area. A screwdriver was located and taken as evidence, but a baseball bat was never found, the sheriff's office said.

MacDonald was taken into custody and booked into the El Dorado County Jail for public intoxication, the sheriff's office said.

The fight is still under investigation
