An El Dorado County woman who allegedly drove the wrong way down a Placerville road was arrested on several charges Thursday.

According to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, at about 6 p.m. a deputy was alerted to a driver who was reportedly driving the wrong way on Missouri Flat Road near Golden Center Drive. After nearly hitting a pedestrian, the vehicle came to a stop at in some bushes near the local Auto Zone store, the sheriff's office said.

Several motorists stopped to help the woman, but when a deputy arrived, the driver backed out of the bushes and drove off northbound on Missouri Flat, nearly hitting several other cars, the sheriff's office said. After a short slow-speed chase, Lauren Esposito, 23, of Somerset was detained near the onramp for Highway 50, the sheriff's office said.

While conducting a DUI investigation, the sheriff's office said Esposito became verbally abusive, screaming racial taunts at officers. She also attempted to escape, the sheriff's office said.

She was booked into the El Dorado County Jail on charges of suspicion of DUI and resisting, obstructing, and delaying a peace officer. She was released after posting bond.
