Goings on in the Folsom & El Dorado Hills areas

Team Hope—an after-school program through Hands4Hope, which is based in El Dorado Hills and aims to give kids in grades K-5 opportunities to participate in outreach volunteer opportunities—holds monthly meetings on the third Wednesday of every month (January 21 this month). If your child would like to participate and make a difference in the community, visit hands4hopeyouth.org. Most recently, Hands4Hope hosted the Warm & Fuzzy Drive, which collected warm clothes for foster youth and low-income families, and their Sixth Annual Blanket Making Party where volunteers made blankets that will be distributed to those in need.

Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary
continues to hold the Food Truck Safari every third Wednesday of the month from 5-8 p.m. Bring your family on January 21 for food trucks, live music, face painting, bounce houses and more!.

The Folsom Lake College Foundation will steward the Style Magazine—Sharon & Digger Williams Scholarship program newly established to honor and assist incoming high school  students from Folsom High School, Folsom Lake High School and Vista Del Lago High School. Two Style Magazine—Sharon & Digger Williams Scholarships ($500 each) will be awarded for the 2015/16 school year. El Dorado Hills Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry has welcomed new dentist Dr. Jonah Tabrizi after the passing of Dr. Jared Ruminson. Dr. Tabrizi graduated from the University of Missouri Dental School in 2007 and has a special interest in root canals, implants, cosmetics and oral surgery.

Locally based Hollywood film producers Howard Burd and Micah Sparks are creating a unique program to raise funds for local charities. When their new film 4 Minute Mile is rented or purchased via the digital distribution platform yerka.com, 10 percent of the proceeds will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Sacramento and other nonprofits focused on healthy lifestyles for teens. Denise Aquila of Alain Pinel Realtors in Folsom was recently honored by Sacramento County Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan of District 4 for her dedication and leadership in her real estate profession, as well as for her generous support of nonprofits such as the Murer House Foundation, Make-a-Wish Foundation and Women’s Empowerment of Sacramento, among others.

Congratulations to Folsom resident Elisabeth Corley for receiving an $8,000 “Making a Difference” scholarship from Royal Neighbors of America, one of the nation’s largest women-led life insurance organizations that empowers women to meet the needs of their families, and awards scholarships to assist members with education costs.

Commander Dirk Regan was sworn in as Folsom Police Department’s new police commander on November 18. Additions to the Folsom Fire Department include firefighters Ryan Bordley, Justin Enderlin and Erick Johnson, and Fire Prevention Officers Lauren Ono and Tiffany Richards.

Don’t miss photographer Keith Sutter and oil painter Kirk Miller at the Gallery at 48 Natoma’s Art of Ballet exhibit Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extra hours Tuesday and Wednesday evenings (6-8 p.m.). Marshall Medical Center recently donated $10,000 to the El Dorado Hills Community Services District, which will go toward the purchase of an inflatable obstacle course for the community pool.

The White Rock Village Knitting Team is making an impact on the community by knitting and donating caps for babies and patients undergoing chemotherapy. Completed caps are donated to Marshall Oncology Center in Cameron Park, as well as Marshall Hospital in Placerville. Auditions for the Fairytale Town Troupers will take place January 26 from 4-7 p.m. at Fairytale Town. Auditions are open to aspiring actors and singers ages 5-18, and no theatrical experience is necessary. Visit fairytaletown.org for more details.

Congratulation to the Folsom High School Bulldogs on their amazing season! As of press date, the (15-0) Bulldogs defeated Grant High School to take the region title and advance to  state championships against Oceanside High School. To see the results, visit folsombulldogfootball.com.
