Meet Macaque Kayli

Jan 02, 2015 04:30PM ● By Style
Was it love at first sight? Possibly. Lovely female macaque, Kayli, and handsome Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary resident, Wallace, were both born in spring of 2006 at research facilities. Wallace has lived at the Zoo since October 2006. Although the recent passing of his longtime roommate saddened all, Kayli’s arrival—in September 2014—instantly lifted everyone’s spirits. The monkeys were separated for several days to provide adjustment time. As Kayli carefully checked out her surroundings, she investigated the primate night house, studied the sky, climbed up and down from perches, and people-watched. Now the monkeys spend all their time doing these things together. Being a smart primate, Kayli has noticed that Wallace is willing to spend hours grooming her fur; apparently the word “reciprocate” is not a word she recognizes, however.
