Rolling Hills Church & the Food Bank of El Dorado County: A Partnership to Feed the Hungry

Jun 25, 2014 06:16AM ● By Brenna Mc Gowan
For almost a decade Rolling Hills Christian Church in El Dorado Hills has been a partner agency of the Food Bank of El Dorado County.

Rolling Hills is the Food Bank’s Emergency Food Assistance Program distribution site for El Dorado Hills. Every other week, Rolling Hills distributes the food received by the Food Bank to at-risk residents of El Dorado County.

Rolling Hills’ food distribution program is led by volunteers Stefanie Thayer and Maya Francisco and several local compassionate volunteers.  Along with twice monthly food distributions that include fresh produce, meat, dairy products, breads and pastries, and non-perishable supplemental groceries from the Food Bank, Rolling Hills’ members also donate nonperishable items to supplement these provisions so that recipients often receive two or more additional bags of food from the church.

Additionally, these members also provide donations of clothing, toys, and household items at the first distribution of each month.  By working with local high schools as well, the Food Bank and Rolling Hills Church partnership has increased awareness amongst teenagers about the needs in our community.

“During this difficult economic climate that has led to a decrease in CalFresh benefits, it is increasingly important to help meet the holistic needs of our neighbors.  Each food distribution at Rolling Hills serves on average over 60 families representing more than 260 individuals who receive food.  We have seen an increase in the number of senior citizens who come regularly to receive food”, says Teresa Kelly, Chief Operating Officer at Rolling Hills Church.

When asked about Rolling Hills’ partnership with the Food Bank, Senior Pastor Bill Search commented “It has been a blessing to work with the Food Bank.  Mike Sproull has a big heart and is extremely compassionate.  His vision and drive to help the less fortunate directly aligns with what we want to achieve in our community.”

Food Bank Founder, Mike Sproull says “Our partnership with Rolling Hills Church over the past decade has been a rewarding one.  The members at Rolling Hills understand the needs of our community and are committed to helping the Food Bank of El Dorado County feed our at-risk population.  It is because of partnerships with local agencies like Rolling Hills that the Food Bank can achieve its mission of preventing hunger and providing hope in communities throughout El Dorado County from El Dorado Hills to South Lake Tahoe.”

El Dorado County is a very giving community and the Food Bank of El Dorado County  looks forward to working with many more organizations throughout the year.  If your family service organization, faith based group, school group and more would like to help, simply call them at (530) 621-9950 or email us at [email protected].  Together we can reach out to our neighbors who struggle to make ends meet!
