Located on Placerville’s charming Main Street sits Filo Bakery & Café, a great spot to enjoy freshly made sandwiches, pastries and pastas. After spending hours wandering through local shops, building up our appetites, my friend and I decided to step inside the cafe for dinner. On a warmer evening the patio would be an inviting place to dine, but as the sun began to set, we moved inside. Behind the counter was a sweet lady who welcomed us and waited patiently as we chose our meals. The reasonably priced pastas—which also came with homemade garlic bread—beckoned my attention and I decided on the Toscana Chicken Pasta. My dining partner opted for the Fettuccini Alfredo. Our eyes lit up when the food arrived; my Toscana was beautiful—fresh penne was topped with bright cherry tomatoes, grilled chicken, spinach and basil with feta cheese crumbled over top. The accompanying garlic bread was all that you can imagine—moist on the interior with a crispy and delicious exterior. Equally satisfying was the atmosphere—it felt as though we’d been invited over for dinner with friends. Next time I’m in the area, I will have to check out Filo for breakfast—their fresh-baked pastries sound scrumptious!
