In the fourth installment of the popular Ice Age series, Manny, Diego and Sid set off on another adventure when the continent breaks apart separating the friends from their family. The trio find themselves adrift on an ice berg. During their time at sea they encounter a group of pirates, sea sirens and other creatures as they find their way back. Will the group of friends make it back in time to save their family from the ever shifting landscape though?

The plot to Ice Age : Continental Drift seems to have the elements to make a great adventure film, but somehow the film is flat out boring. Perhaps it is because it is the forth film in the series, but the film held no surprises. In fact the entire movie had a been there done that type of feel. This includes the rodent chasing the same acorn yet again to the far too familiar relationships among the returning characters, nothing profound is introduced or explored.
 
The look of Ice Age : Continental Drift is quite good. The character design of the animals, especially the new pirate animals, were excellent. The voice acting is acceptable if not spectacular. The animation itself was top notch, and the colors were vibrant and alive, unlike the writing.
 
The writing for Ice Age : Continental Drift was the true weak link. It wasn't just the fact that they took no risks with the story, but the dialog was awful. The movie is littered with uninspired one liners, puns, and bad jokes. The back and forth banter is wooden and unnatural. Lastly the characters constantly say what is happening, which is just annoying. So if a tree falls a character exclaiming, “A tree fell!” is sure to follow quickly after.  
 
Ice Age : Continental Drift was not made for me, or any person over the age of twelve though. This movie was made for little kids, and gauging by the screening I was at, they will love it. So despite all my problems with the movie from an adult perspective I have to admit it is of little consequence. Like Madagascar from earlier this summer, Ice Age has enough zany characters, action, color, and movement to keep kids entertained for the entire hour and a half running time. Ice Age : Continental Drift is good for a nap for any adult, which you will be able to take because the kids won’t move from their seat taking in this movie with delight, in which case everyone wins.
