May was quite a busy month for the El Dorado Hills Town Center! The Center’s Farmers’ Market opened May 20, and runs Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until October 2. The Center also kicked off its monthly Showcase Saturdays, where attendees enjoy wine and beer tastings, local merchant specials, and a concert from 6-9:30 p.m.; enjoy these expanded hours until September. Rachel Rosenthal, former assistant superintendent/vice president of instruction at Sierra College, is the new president of Folsom Lake College. She will succeed Dr. Thelma Scott-Skillman, who will retire at the end of June. Rosenthal, a licensed professional engineer, has previously worked for Caltrans and American River College.

Speaking of Folsom Lake College, congratulations to Cody Jackson! Jackson was selected as a 2012 Coca-Cola Silver Scholar, based on scores earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition. More than 1,700 applications were received this year. What a feat!

Winterhill, a local olive oil producer in El Dorado County, won the silver medal at the 2012 Los Angeles International Olive Oil Competition with its “Shakespeare’s Acre” oil. On May 7, Micron manager Richard Iseger was presented with the Patriot Award by the National Guard. Micron was also presented with the Seven Seals Award for its continued support of military team members.

Every Wednesday night from 7-9 p.m. (starting June 6), the Palladio at Broadstone will offer high-energy family entertainment with its “On the Stage” concert series. Oak Ridge High School’s Music Department has something to celebrate! The school’s band took gold in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic, and Jazz categories and won the Sweepstakes Award at the Heritage Festival in Anaheim.
