A recent shopping trip in Roseville had my boyfriend and I ravenous and craving some serious seafood, sushi and dim sum.

What better way to silence our stomachs’ growls and not do any serious damage to our wallets than an all-you-can-eat sushi and seafood buffet? Tomi Japanese Seafood and Grill (formerly Mizu) seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

Entering the establishment, we were instantly seated at a window table, which happened to afford spectacular views of Miner’s Ravine Preserve. After briefly taking in the beauty, our attention turned to the bright and airy dining room and spacious buffet area. As any seasoned buffet eater does, I took a stroll and peered at everything before deciding how to fill my first plate. While I went with salmon and yellowtail nigiri, miso soup, a variety of sushi (California, rainbow, shrimp tempura and Philadelphia rolls) and edamame (soybeans), my mate opted for the hot dishes: vegetable tempura, orange chicken, chow mein and fried rice. Each item tasted just as delicious as it looked, and with every bite my hunger began to dissipate. Service was top-notch – our drinks were never left empty and the chefs continually replaced items on the buffet…ensuring ultimate freshness.

Particular standouts included the made-to-order bowls of udon soup, delicate har gow (shrimp dumplings), crispy wontons stuffed with cream cheese, and of course the multiple options of mouthwatering sushi. Words of advice: Pace yourself and save room for dessert – the green tea ice cream and egg custard buns are to die for!

Three plates of food, two bowls of soup, and one scoop of ice cream later, it was time to say our goodbyes and go on a much-needed afternoon walk. For a buffet offering variety, value and something for all palates – from the timid to the adventurous – look no further than Tomi!
