Describe your business.

Math Masters specializes in tutoring and coaching mathematics for high school, junior high and elementary school students.

What was the first job you ever had, and what did you learn from the experience?

A paperboy – the same as Walt Disney, Sam Walton and Sean “Diddy” Combs. As a 12-year-old, it ignited my entrepreneurial spirit. I bought and sold papers, signed up new subscribers, collected all the money for my route, and learned about customer service, profit and loss.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

We provide scholarships for about 20 non-profit groups per year. Over the years, we have given out over $30,000 in tutoring.

Why is your staff the best in the business?

Ask almost any business owner what their biggest headache is and the common answer is employees. Not with me. My staff of 12 people is dedicated to success and professionalism, and my average employee has been with me for over six years.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

I have been married for 27 years. Of all the people in the world, there is no one who I have more respect for than my wife. I am blessed to have found my soulmate to share this fantastic journey with.

Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?

Warren Buffett and Joel Osteen fascinate me. They both have achieved a huge amount of success and yet they seem to be very grounded and straightforward in their respective vocations.

What’s your hidden talent?

In my prior career I was an award-winning television producer. I have worked with Carol Burnett, Dolly Parton, Robert Wagner, George Benson and members of Fleetwood Mac.

And finally, customer service is…?

That’s easy – great customer service is always more important than profit; integrity is always more important than success.
