On a chilly, but sunny afternoon, a few of my fellow Stylers and I took a trip through the beautiful Foothills in hopes of finding some good ol’ lunchtime grub!

Cruising through the welcoming town of Placerville, we decided to all chip in for the best pizza we could find…and we soon came across Spanky’s. Famous for their genuine New York-style pizza, we decided to stick with our first intention and ordered The Works Pizza. The co-owner, Shawn Hicks, happily took our order and advised us on all the fresh and delicious toppings. Shawn and her husband George have owned and managed Spanky’s for the past 34 years!

Anticipating our large perfection of a pizza, we sat in the large dining area. Across from a fully stocked bar area, the huge dining room can be used for birthday, retirement, or special occasion dinners. After much needed out-of-the-office-chat, we noticed the old-school jukebox and decided to pop in a few coins to keep our minds off our temporary empty stomachs. Before the second song was over, out came the steaming freshly-topped pizza. The Works consisted of cheese, pepperoni, sausage, onions, olives, mushrooms and bell peppers, with crust baked to a crispy, fluffed perfection. Not even paying attention to my co-workers, my two slices were gone within minutes, and I was completely satisfied!
Staring at each other as if we should have ordered more, Shawn stopped by our table once again to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. We assured her that she, or should I say her pizza, saved the day and appeased our lunchtime craving. Spanky’s Pizza is definitely a must if you are shopping, driving through, or just looking for a great meal in the Foothills!
