In his 24 years of working with Roseville’s Building Department, Gene Paolini has seen the city grow in many ways.

From the development of the town’s infrastructure to its massive increase in population, he has been around for it all and his pride in what Roseville has achieved is extremely obvious by the way he talks about the residents, his staff and his job.

“The positive thing about this city is that it has been very well planned out,” says Paolini. “When I started, the city population was less than 30,000 and now it’s 110,000. Despite the population growth, though, we haven’t lost the sense of small-town community. On the other hand, we are such a progressive city – I was able to serve as the president of the California building officials. We are recognized in a way that we can take advantage of that sort of opportunity.”

Aside from his career, Paolini enjoys nature photography – jumping in the car, driving to Tahoe and stopping along the way to take pictures. He also endeavors in hiking near his home in Auburn, as well as trying to play golf, which according to him means: he owns some clubs. “More than anything, I love hanging out with my kids and family,” says Paolini.

Paolini’s passion for family and community extends to his church, as well, where he and his wife started a youth group. “We mainly started it for our kids, and once [they] went off we stayed involved with it. So, in essence, we got a lot more kids.”
