Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

We developed Granite Bay Pilates and Yoga to offer a full-service tranquil studio atmosphere to allow people to make a change in their lives through movement and stillness.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from the experience?

K.D.: Fitness instructor. There are other jobs that would be more lucrative but never as satisfying.
L.A.: Dance team instructor. It taught me many things that I still incorporate today. The experience of working with precision dancers gave me a lot of awareness of how the body moves.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

We hold special classes and events throughout the year either to raise awareness or to give back (free) to the community.

Why is your staff the best in the business?

We continue to train by attending workshops from very seasoned instructors, some with over 50 years of experience. We stay current with ever-changing ideas as well. Each of our instructors brings their own touch to their teaching style. We are not and never will be “cookie cutter.”

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

Our families.

Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?

The Pilates Elders. Many of them still teach and practice at ages 80 and over. Learning from people who actually trained under Joe and Clara Pilates is a great experience.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?

We practice yoga/meditation...we have such a lovely and serene studio.

What’s your favorite childhood memory?

K.D.: Large family events.
L.A.: Playing on the monkey bars and putting on shows with my sisters. Sometimes it feels like we’re playing in the studio like we did at recess...turning upside down on the bars is still fun to do.

What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?

Hawks Restaurant. They have such a great environment and great dining experience.

And finally, customer service is…?

Offering the best of our skills to all types of clients in a safe, professional and effective manner. Whether you are an advanced athlete or a challenged beginner, we can adapt the method for each individual to have success.
