Doing something that you love for a living is a rare gift.

Carmel Hill, the Tennis Professional at Broadstone Racquet Club, is one of those very fortunate few who can say that they have the best job in the world. Hill and I got to talk a bit about her history as a tennis player and Pro. “I went to college in South Carolina on a tennis scholarship,” she says in her mellow Aussie accent. She first picked up a tennis racquet when she was three years old and has been playing ever since. “I’ve been at Broadstone in Folsom for about a year now, though I have been with the Spare Time Clubs [the company that owns the Broadstone Racquet Club] for about three years. Sometimes I think that I live at the club!” she laughs.

Hill likes to point out that tennis is a lifetime sport. “You can start when you are a little kid, and I have known people who picked up a racquet for the first time when they were in their 60s, and one fellow who was still playing in his 80s!” Hill says, “Seeing a person’s eyes light up when they get the ball over the net or have their first rally is very rewarding, as is watching juniors win their first match or tournament!”
