Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

What began as a hobby during one of my many trips to Argentina, quickly turned into a successful business endeavor. The second I landed in Argentina, I fell in love with the country’s high-quality, soft, buttery leather. I knew that the stylish savvy shopper in the United States would appreciate the beautiful leather handbags and accessories that I was surrounded by, and knew I needed to bring them back to the States to share my discovery!

What was your vision when you first started your business, and what is it now?

A local boutique in Sacramento was interested in carrying the handbags that I brought from Argentina. I was impressed that my hunch was correct, and thrilled with how quickly they were selling. Women love the gorgeous supple leather and appreciate the subtle, yet stylish hardware that compliments the lightweight handbags. I started designing my very own handbag collection, and ADA Handbags & Accessories was born. I feel the key was my ability to achieve a balance of design that seemed to transcend typical generational boundaries. My inspiration is to design products that attract women of various ages, interests and backgrounds. The common thread is the appreciation consumers have for ADA’s stylish and exceptional quality products available at affordable prices. Currently over 200 high-end retail boutiques carry the ADA line. Due to high demand, we have added to the line: wallets, clutches and belts in the very same fine Argentine leather. Based solely on word of mouth, ADA handbag collection has spread quickly from boutiques onto women’s arms across the nation.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

I have donated products at numerous functions, charity events and charity auctions. I also support my customers by attending trunk shows and helping to promote local business in any way that I can.

What is the best thing about being the boss?

I like to see things get done. If I think a certain show would be good for us, or I want to make a certain change in a bag...I do it. I don’t have to wait to get permission from anybody.

Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?

My husband, Gaston Deferrari, who is also my business partner. He is so knowledgeable, hardworking, forward thinking, optimistic and full of life. I love to be around him!

And finally, customer service is…?

We always try to satisfy our customers and always go the extra mile for them (literally!). Without our customers we wouldn’t be here today, so no matter the situation, we do what we can to keep them coming back for more bags!
