Jack Winkler is proud to be a resident and contributor to the fine city of Placerville. He served in the U.S. Navy in the ‘40s, graduated from Hastings Law School in 1952, and married Nita Cortez of Grass Valley in 1953. They moved to Placerville in 1954, and have lived there ever since. “There were about 18,000 people then – now there is 10 times that,” Winkler exclaims about the city’s remarkable growth over the years.

Winkler was District Attorney of El Dorado County from 1954-1966, and then worked in the California Attorney General’s Office in the Criminal Law Division becoming its Chief in 1975. He organized and supervised the Attorney General’s Opinion Unit until he retired in 1990. Since retirement he has been involved with the Lion’s Club pushing for park improvements in the city. Winkler enjoys overseeing the distribution of monies from the Lion’s Club scholarship fund for El Dorado High School students.
