THEN:
The Purple Rose of Cairo
In this, one of only two Woody Allen romantic comedies in which he doesn’t appear (the other is Vicky Cristina Barcelona), a film character, Tom Baxter (Jeff Daniels), enters the real world and the heart of Depression-era lonely heart, Cecilia (Mia Farrow). This film represents interesting escapist filmmaking.

NOW:
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Love him or hate him, Woody Allen is back and this time in shockingly good form with Vicky Cristina Barcelona, proving that his comeback flick, Match Point, was no fluke. In this free-spirited comedy about complex romantic entanglements, Allen draws astonishingly good performances from stars Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem.
