Jackson Event: Argonaut Mine Centennial Event–Various Activities from 9/22 - 9/25

Thursday, Sept. 22 Memorial Ceremonies at Jackson’s Historic Cemeteries On the anniversary of the 1922 funerals (this event will be repeated on Saturday, Sept. 24), ceremonies by clergy and period music recreating the 1922 setting. 9 am Protestant and Mormon services at Jackson City Cemetery; 9:45 am Catholic service at the adjacent Catholic Cemetery; short walk to St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church for Orthodox service at 10:30 am (approx.) *Brunch immediately following at the St Sava Serbian Church Hall, provided by KSS Church Auxiliary. Please RSVP for lunch with Danica Paul, 209.256.3774 (lunch cost TBD, pay at the door).

Fri & Sat, Sept. 23-24 “Gold Fire” by Laurence Rutter Dramatic Reading of the 1997 play that recreates the disaster and rescue attempt using the words of participants and contemporary reporting. Presented by Main Street Theatre Works; 8 pm, Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre. Free admission, seating limited to 200. Bring chairs or blankets for seating on lawn.

Saturday, Sept. 24 Living History Day at the Kennedy Mine Experience the 1922 rescue environment with activities for the whole family, costumed characters, lively speakers, live music, cultural food vendors. 9 am - 5 pm. Vaudeville Musical Review re-imagining the 1922 performance by Argonaut miners in Hollywood at Sid Grauman’s Million Dollar Theater, featuring the Easy Winners ragtime string band, 3 pm. Guided tours of the Argonaut Mine site, 10 am – 3:30 pm. Access to Argonaut Mine site by shuttle only, space limited, shuttle reservations required.

Sunday, Sept. 25 Closing Concert Multi-cultural concert performed by guitarist, composer and teacher, Miroslav Tadic, and Yvette Halzwarth (Violin), Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre, 2 pm. Free admission. Bring chairs or blankets for seating on lawn.
